Her friend and advocate, Thomas, stood by her side, anxiously awaiting a diagnosis. Instead, the medical team dismissed her symptoms as related to medical marijuana use and her menstrual cycle. Just three days after discharge, Jessica’s condition worsened to borderline sepsis, and at a different hospital, doctors identified an untreated colitis infection that had been causing her DKA for nearly three weeks.

Thomas Bouchard’s commitment to ensuring friends and family receive appropriate care was deeply shaped by witnessing firsthand the consequences of misdiagnoses, delayed treatment, and bias from medical professionals within his own family.
